Home Connect | Will Smart Heating and Lighting Save Me Money?

Monday 30 December 2019

At Twenty 5 Design, our team are big fans of Home Connect for home automation. A clever phone controlled app, it’s a smart upgrade, allowing you to manage home appliances and more. In fact, smart homes can now create all sorts of magic such as conveniently timing the lighting and heating. The big question, however, can it save money? Read on as we explore this more.

What is Smart Heating?

Smart heating is a thermostat that allows you to control your heating remotely from your smartphone or tablet. It’s easy and convenient to use, especially if you’re out - you’ll never have a ‘’have I left the heating on?’’ moment again. What’s more, smart home heating can be customised around yours and your families schedule. It even recognises when you’re commuting to kickstart the heating for a welcome home with minimal effort.

Smart Heating for Saving Energy

Smart heating saves energy by increasing and decreasing the temperature as quickly as possible. It also allows you greater control by giving you the option to be more flexible with your heating settings. For instance, with time, smart heating will learn how your home heats up but on the odd occasion that your plans change, the settings can be easily tweaked from your phone.

Our Summary of Smart Home Heating

So can smart thermostats help save you money? Yes, quite simply put. Energy consumption is more easily managed with smart home heating, potentially helping to save money on energy bills. The controls themselves may be a minor investment but are so worth it when you consider the benefits. Your return on investment will also be pretty much instant when you start seeing a drop in your energy usage.

What is Smart Lighting?

Similar to smart home heating, smart lighting also works via a smartphone app. Enabling you to change the brightness of bulbs and so much more, this technology offers a world of new possibilities. Some popular brands include the Philips Hue which is easily synced with the Amazon Alexa. You can also accessorise smart lighting with additional items such as dimmer switches or motion detectors.

Smart Lighting for Saving Electricity

Just like smart heating, a smart lighting system is a whole new way to save electricity. For example, teens are renowned for leaving lights on but with the app, this matters no more. Sync Home Connect with your house lighting and be able to switch them all off from work. You can also programme lights to turn on and off when you’re away to avert intruders.

Our Summary of Smart Home Lighting

Forgetting to turn off the lights when you leave a room can stack up throughout the year so invest in smart lighting and you can expect a drop in electricity usage. Just after the Christmas period, it’ll also be a welcome reprieve, especially if you’ve overspent. Then there’s the additional benefits of smart LED bulbs - an additional saving of £35 per year!
